d'où vient le prénom Auxane ?

where does Auxane (as a name) come from ?

On a d'abord trouvé le prenom Auxane dans la bible des prénoms... comme quoi ce n'est pas un prénom si rare...
La définition :

Origine grecque. signifie "hospitalier".
Fête le 3 septembre (en même temps que les grégoire... quel rapport ? l'origine est grecque aussi... mais il signifie "celui qui veille"...)

This first name, Auxane, has been given 318 times between 1900 and 2000 (in france)

Greek origin. means "hospitable" (?)
saint day (name day) : septeber 3rd (same day as for gregroire - gregory... what is the link ? They both have the same origin but Gregoire means "the one who sits up to watch after ..."

One can also find Auxane in the bible (St luke)

1:80 {Grew} (euxane). Imperfect active, was growing. {Waxed strong} (ekrataiouto). Imperfect again. The child kept growing in strength of body and spirit. {His shewing} (anadeixews autou). Here alone in the N.T. It occurs in Plutarch and Polybius. The verb appears in a sacrificial sense. The boy, as he grew, may have gone up to the passover and may have seen the boy Jesus (#Lu 2:42-52), but he would not know that he was to be the Messiah. So these two boys of destiny grew on with the years, the one in the desert hills near Hebron after Zacharias and Elisabeth died, the other, the young Carpenter up in Nazareth, each waiting for "his shewing unto Israel."

Luke 1 in www . god rules . net

2:40 {The child grew} (euxane). Imperfect indicative of a very ancient verb (auxanw). this child grew and waxed strong (ekrataiouto, imperfect middle), a hearty vigorous little boy (paidion). Both verbs Luke used in #1:80 of the growth of John the Baptist as a child. qen he used also pneumati, in spirit. Here in addition to the bodily development Luke has "filled with wisdom" (pleroumenon sofiai). Present passive participle, showing that the process of filling with wisdom kept pace with the bodily growth. If it were only always true with others! We need not be troubled over this growth in wisdom on the part of Jesus any more than over his bodily growth. "The intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth of the Child, like the physical, was real. His was a perfect humanity developing perfectly, unimpeded by hereditary or acquired defects. It was the first instance of such a growth in history. For the first time a human infant was realizing the ideal of humanity" (Plummer). {The grace of God} (caris qeou). In full measure.

sexe masculin ou féminin ?
male or female sex ?

we regularely hear "Auxane, is it a girl ?"
Because it sounds like Ann... what about Stephan ? Yann ? ...
Because of Roxanne... You listen to your old Police CDs too much !

Anyhow, even though "the bible of first names" classifies Auxane as a masculine sex name, even though Saint Euxane, bishop of Milano during the 6th century, must have been a male (!)... we see some web site classifying auxanse as a female and others as a male... and Auxane is given as a first name both to masculine and feminine !

As a conclusion ... Auxane is a nice first name. we like its sound and meaning... we believe it's a name that suits well a boy and specifically our baby... and we love our new born baby... and who care about what-people-say ... Auxane is of the male sex.

J'ai pas l'air d'un garcon ?
Fais gaffe à ce que tu dis !

don't I look like a boy ?
Beware what you're saying !
